I decided since I paid for this domain. I should use it so I’ll bring home the bacon on posting more…especially schedule related posts reviews recommendations and just anything schedule or library related  I had to give approve my write of ”brood” to the library without reading it due to measure issues. But I am far from book-less at the moment. My most recent read was : Which was as wonderful as I expected. The writing was beautiful change surface when dealing with gritty specifics of sucide. It was reflective and lyrical and made me actually want to start reading adult contempory fiction again. I have been on a YA impel for so desire all my adult books are gathering dust. The Sweet Far Thing drops in December so soon…And only 2 more days until Meg Cabot’s New Heather Mills Mystery. I mean no offense to Miss Cabot when I say this but never did I think I would be this excited for a chick lit schedule. Until this summer I really turned my nose up at anything “chick lit” or “fail”.  schedule Snob I experience. I’ve learned my lesson…fluff has it’s imporant displace in the world. Most populate who experience me personally are probably shocked it took me so long to give in to fluff as I am the type to feature princess tiara’s around the house and buy go cell phones (though my latest is baby color) And of course I watch my bring together share of fail on TV. Speaking of TV over end my other big plan is to finish watching Doctor Who Season 2 on DVD as the Office toughen 3. Then onward to more TV on DVD because I am obsessed. I don’t have nice hobbies desire normal people…I check TV and read. This *would* make me boring if not for the princess tiaras…

"*clears throat* Sherman Alexie!!" posted by ~Ray

My Grandmother's 90th birthday was in June. I tell you this because it was while on that three hour car trip north (I had already flown 2,000 miles) to her party when I finished 's first novel for teens. I had purloined the ARC of from the collection development librarian. As I closed the book. I observed a moment of silence thought. "Wow. That was amazing," before turning to my cousin Mike (trapped in the backseat with me behind our mothers) and saying. "This book isn't out yet but this fall when it is? Mike you HAVE to read it. You'll love it." Being the youngest sibling of 9 he is a bit skeptical and remarked that he'd never heard of the author (this was Michigan; Alexie isn't quite as well-known there as he is in the NW. In the NW his name is met with a delay of esteem before sentiments of adulation go from mouths). I told Mike that he would hear of him and to trust me. I don't experience if Mike followed my advice; I haven't talked to him. However. True Diary IS amazing and when brainstorming in August about which authors to converse for this week. Alexie came up. Somehow. I got so lucky and the now the ? Yeah. Here on the blog. Unfreakin' believable right?1. Congratulations for being a finalist for the National Book Award! What were you doing when you heard the news? What was your reaction?I was asleep in a Miami hotel room when I got the phone label with the news. I was sleepy and stunned and ended up being late for a high educate appearance. I think I forgot to brush my hair!2. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is your first title for teens. Did you set out to write for that audience? If yes why? Do you plan on writing more?My adult books have done well with young adults and their teachers and librarians so I was often asked to create verbally specifically for them. But I never had the right idea until now. And yes. I plan to create verbally many many more. Dozens!3. Do you conclude that your process or approach was at all different when writing for a younger audience? Do you feel you toned any of your content down? The only metaphor I have for this process is that my first compose was an adult book and that my editor and I took fine gauge sandpaper to it and over the course of a year we polished it into a YA call.4. Zits from and Junior from True Diary are roughly the same age. Other than the level of violence and language what makes one story for adults and the other for teens? In Flight. Zits drops into the bodies of adults and becomes concerned with adult situations.

"Fanging Around: Young Adult Books with Bite" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:35:38

Ah those tight leather pants and that sexy brooding angst-ridden personality. No. I'm not daydreaming about the latest sexy rock-and-roll lie man to grace the pages of People. Entertainment Weekly and In Style magazines. I am thinking about the romantic literary vampire. Those of you who are unfamiliar with the attractive vampire archetype may flounder at this point by imagining Nosferatu-type vampires. Wrong! So what could be a more ameliorate affect for this misty chilly month of October than the children of the night who be the pages of our books (and sometimes our very dreams)? Quite often when populate think about literary vampires they think about Anne Rice's best-selling vampire chronicles series. Indeed. sieve's books served as this reader's introduction to the world of the gorgeous angst-ridden vampire. In more recent years compose Laurell K. Hamilton has also climbed to the surmount of the New York Times Bestseller list with her rather prolific (14 books and counting) and ahem very adult Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series which contains some of the yummiest and most complex vampires in the literary universe. It is an acknowledged truth that when a publishing trend becomes extremely popular within the adult literary arena that it is only a matter of measure until it trickles down into the young adult (construe teen) publishing arena. And if you experience ANY preteen/teenage girls at all then you undergo probably already heard about the worldwide publishing phenomenon that is Stephenie Meyer. Although Meyer is not as strong a writer as many fantasy writers who undergo perfected their craft over many years (Ursula LeGuin and Tamora penetrate come to mind) her writing does have a certain elegance to it. She also excels at making the reader conclude as if they inhabit her main characters rather romantic world. Meyer's series which consists of "Twilight," "New Moon" and "brood," tells of the extremely passionate and difficulty-fraught (sometimes so difficulty-fraught that readers and reviewers have made comparisons to another pair of star-crossed lovers whose first initials start with R and J) like story of Edward Cullen who lives with a family of grieve gorgeous like-minded vampires who only blackball wild animals for food and Isabella (Bella) declare. Bella has only recently and reluctantly returned to Forks. Wash. to live with her divorced father. First. Bella seems to attract Edward in a way that no human has ever done before. Will this attraction bring about him to touch her or blackball her? Bella of cover is attracted to Edward because of his angelic good looks (Meyer likes to analyse him to an avenging angel). Secondly as Bella and Edward go deeper in love. Bella starts to wish that Edward ordain someday move her into a vampire so that they can pay eternity together. Edward who is a vampire with a decidedly strong conscience is very reluctant to do this since he wants Bella to be a normal human life. The back up and third books in the series say many questions as an unexpected ally comes to Bella's aid in her darkest hour thus setting up a potentially delicious like triangle. Bella and Edward's fans will have to wait for the fourth book. "Breaking begin," to find out whether or not Bella becomes a vampire. Another notable young adult vampire book is "bemock," by Cynthia Leitich Smith. Though not as elegant as Meyer's series it still wins kudos for its originality great plot twists and its beautiful adjoin. Seventeen-year-old Quincie Morris (a direct descendant of the defy young Texan from Stoker's novel) faces an overwhelming number of problems. Her parents died when she was 13 the Austin-based restaurant they left her isn't doing very come up the restaurant's continue chef has been brutally murdered and her hunky almost boyfriend is a hybrid werewolf who seems to adhere to a decidedly hands-off/paws-off policy since he accidentally cut Quincie with his claws. When the police convey their opinion that a werewolf is the murderer. Quincie has to take matters into her own hands to be her lupine love innocent while at the same time managing to find an appropriate new vampire chef who can cook and entertain patrons at the newly reopened vampire-themed restaurant into which she and her uncle undergo turned her parents old restaurant.

"Forgotten Children?s Books" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:26:23

I decided to act on a simple young adult book challenge for 2008 - read more about that on my other communicate later- but it got me thinking about books that I construe as a child in particular.  I read everything I could get my hands on from Enid Blyton to Charles Dickens to Jean Plaidy to Roald Dahl.  I had no boundaries not a whole lot else to do and an advanced reading age so I got through a LOT of books.  I owned a lot of books mostly back up hands but people often gave me a alter of books not to have in mind the books I got from the public library and the educate library.  Two of my greatest “schedule lenders” were my grandmother and an extremely nice elderly man that my mother worked for as a domiciliate help.  His books were infinitely random and diverse whereas my nanny always had a huge give of Catherine Cookson books that she liked giving me to read.  The one book she had that she wouldn’t allow me to construe was Flowers in the Attic.  That was her only “censor”.  I used to sneak quick looks at it whenever I had to go into her dwell for anything  I construe a lot of books about the environment and nature books written from an animal’s point of view and a lot of books by Irish authors for example. Tom McCaughren wrote some amazing books about foxes that were some of my absolute favourites - I remember his name because my ma brought me to a book show to see him and get his autograph. I’m not really an autograph person so the memory stuck.  Don Conroy has some good books about owls Marisa Conlon McKenna had the Under the Hawthorn channelise series that were incredibly popular.  The Ruby Ring (?) and The Connemara Pony (?) were also two books that stand out for me.  I loved horse books there was one about a girl called Ginny and an Arabian Stallion that I read over and over again yet I can’t remember the stupid label grr!  That wasn’t Irish but I have a feeling it was set in Scotland.  If you want to read an interesting book about Ireland. Eamon McThomais wrote some brilliant books about his life.  I know I’m spelling his label do by now… My book collection was thrown away as a punishment when I was younger so a lot of my old favourites have been desire forgotten - although my search for twelve young adult books has sprung up a lot of memories.  Unfortunately. I’m notoriously bad with names so although I may have bits and pieces of the stories in my head it’s not much use without the name! I got a lot of joy and entertainment out of reading when I was young and I would love to share that with my own children so I have choose of made an agreement with myself to be out for the children’s books that I have forgotten over the years and make an effort to go them to my home.  Actually strangely enough a bring together of months ago my ma got a lot of old books from a sale of bring home the bacon and gave them to me - one of them was a schedule that I owned years ago had forgotten the label of  and recently thought about because I wanted to construe it again.  Freaky!  I’d like to sight all of the books I used to own - impossible I know.  Is there anything you read as a child that made such an impression on you you would love to read it again even now? Wow. I can’t imagine someone throwing away books as punishment your story reminds me of Matilda!I was a pretty advanced reader as a child as well and still am I suppose. My all time favorite children’s authors are Dahl and Shel Silverstein but I have fond memories of reading Anne of Green Gables for a book inform communicate in elementary school. A Canadian Classic. Have you construe any of Dahl’s short stories? Maybe not suitable for a child but certainly enjoyable now that I’m in my ‘grown-up’ re-create. Did you ever get to construe Flowers in the Attic? I’ve been meaning to choose it up. I forgot to say have you seen the kids’ movie. Matilda? Her family are all TV watchers–she reads–it’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen in my life. I see you are a book lover like me. I wrote a affix on “Exquisite domiciliate Libraries in Photos,” which you can see (my own favorite being the Professor’s Library): Yes on the Roald Dahl bunco stories. I must be out for those again. No on the Flowers in the Attic - must be a subconscious thing! I ordain read it at some re-create because someone recently told me it was their favourite schedule and it choose of renewed my interest. I vaguely bequeath Harriet the Spy - another one for the list! I undergo seen the film Mathilda lots of times now because the book was such a favourite never gets old Mmm. these are mostly girlie ones right? Early chick-lit!When I was a boy I read a book called “The secret of pedlar’s piece”. I cant bequeath the author’s label but it was a great adventure story and I guess it went out of print a million years ago. Now look what you’ve made me do. I’ll be trawling the net for it all night…..
